National Grid Basslink Project Launch

The project launch was to represent the significance of the overall project to the media and major stakeholders.

The Basslink Project, at the time, was the single largest project of its type in the world linking the Victorian and Tasmanian power sources via an undersea cable.

Both the Premier of Victoria and Premier of Tasmania were at the simultaneous launch events held at Loy Yang Power Station in Victoria and Georgetown in Tasmania. The link up was achieved creating another first, fibre-optic live video link up between both sites via the undersea cable.
